Simple Farmhouse Spring Wreath

Do you ever eye those fancy floral wreaths when you’re browsing at the craft store? Or you see a inspiration idea that reminds you of a Magnolia Market Wreath? You think to yourself that you’d love your own, but don’t want to spend $50 to $75 on it. Maybe you’re not the craftiest and think there’s no way you could make that! But guess what? You can! Learn how to make an easy DIY Farmhouse Spring Wreath with minimal supplies needed.

This DIY project doesn’t require very many materials.

Wreath form
One to two stems of flowers of your choice
Ribbon
Hot glue gun/hot glue
Optional: Fabric stiffener — If your ribbon isn’t wired, this helps you make it into a nice bow.

Place your flowers in the spring wreath

Start by working on your flower display by cutting all the flowers off at the base of the stem, then working to place them around the wreath. Since I was only focusing on two sides, I gently slid the flowers into the wreath form to see how they looked and repositioned them if I didn’t like the placement.

You can add flowers to certain sections or all around the whole wreath.

Add the flowers around the sections of the wreath you’d like filled in, then be sure they’re secure. I chose not to hot glue my flowers in place because I want to be able to pull them out and add other seasonal flowers throughout the year easily. Think of all the options!

Secure the flowers

The next step is to secure your flowers by wrapping a strip of ribbon around the place where they meet in the center. I hot glued the ribbon in place, and this is where I will add my bow.

This step is optional if you used flowers all the way around the wreath.

Make the bow for your wreath

The last step is the bow. Cut the ribbon into double the length of the size bow you want. If you want your bow to be 6 inches wide, cut 12 inches of ribbon. Dip your ribbon into fabric stiffener, then carefully wring it out so it’s not dripping.

Next, fold the ribbon so that the two ends meet in the middle. Make sure to let it dry flat and the way you want it to look, because fabric stiffener gives it the shape it needs to stay dimensional. Use a small scrap piece of ribbon to create the bow in the center.

I put the whole bow, still wet, on a kitchen towel and then used two small bottles of paint to prop the sides of the bow up to give it that dimension I needed since I was using ribbon with no wire. You can skip the fabric stiffener if you use a ribbon with wire.

If you chose the fabric stiffener method, let your bow dry for 24 hours.

No matter how you made or purchased your bow, hot glue it to your wreath.

The whole wreath is very simple to make and costs less than $25 depending on the type of wreath form you select and what you pick up in the way of flowers. Save money by reusing your wreath form each year and just changing out the flowers.
