How to Make the Perfect Gourmet Grilled Cheese

During the week my family, like all of yours I’m sure, is super busy. My son’s in school, my daughter’s in daycare, my husband and I are off to work…and then in the evenings we have sports, baseball lessons, and I have my blog to keep up with. It seems like no week is without it’s busiest days and sometimes I struggled to keep up with an over the top homemade meal. So at least once a week I try to keep it simple with something different, but just as delicious and one of my FAVORITE go to meals is grilled cheese. But…not just any grilled cheese! A delicious gourmet grilled cheese!! What’s that you ask? Well, let me share with you today how to make the perfect gourmet grilled cheese and what to pair it with!

Today’s grilled cheese is brought to you with fresh sliced deli ham, soft havarti cheese, one thinly sliced honeycrisp apple, fresh bakery bread smothered with dijon mustard and light mayo!!

What you need:

sliced deli ham

havarti cheese sliced

honeycrisp apple thinly sliced

two thick pieces of bakery bread

mayo

dijon mustard

How to create the perfect gourmet grilled cheese…..

First, start by getting two thick pieces of bread, two slices of havarti, and a few very thin slices of honeycrisp apple. You’ll find that the combination of sweet and cheesy with the ham and mustard works amazingly together!!

Start by putting a nice layer of mayonnaise on the outside of your two pieces of bread. You know how grilled cheeses traditionally use butter? Well, scrap that and try mayo…I used light mayo…and you’ll instantly know why this is a great change for your gourmet grilled cheese! Yum!

Lightly grease a skillet and place on piece of bread mayo side down into it, then add your ham and a thin layer of dijon mustard to it. Next place a slice of havarti, your apple slices, then a second slice of havarti, and finally top it with your other slice of bread, mayo side UP.

Turn the burner on medium heat and cook until each side is golden brown and the cheese is nice and oooey-gooey delicious!!!

While your grilled cheese is getting browned to perfection, place some water on boil and get some Kraft Macaroni and Cheese going, as well. My littles love Kraft Mac & Cheese and it’s the perfect simple and delicious side dish to pair with my gourmet grilled cheese.
