Who’s needing some modern farmhouse kitchen ideas?! Recently, I’ve been loving the modern farmhouse look. I mean, what’s not to love!? It’s like country chic…which I’m all about. Therefore, I’ve been wanting to do a kitchen remodel – my kitchen is pretty outdated and definitely needs a pick me up. So, I decided that I’m going to go with the farmhouse style for the kitchen design, so naturally, I HAVE to share my ideas with you!
What is the Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Style?
When I think of a modern farmhouse kitchen, I think of neutral colors and natural materials. In other words, I think of sleek, contemporary design mixed with a cozy farmhouse aesthetic. And lots of reclaimed wood, a big farmhouse sink, white cabinetry…all those country kitchen feels. So really, the farmhouse kitchen design can consist of multiple different looks. However, traditionally, the modern farmhouse style has modern features, industrial-inspired accents along with that rustic look.
What are the Best Colors for a Modern Farmhouse Kitchen?
There’s no set design book for your farmhouse makeover. However, traditionally – the farmhouse style incorporates a lot of white. White backsplash, white kitchen cabinets. Some kitchens also incorporate the black and white look – which can look really sleek and contemporary yet still rustic. In addition, natural wood is often used as well. Granite or marble countertops are also a common design idea to compliment that backsplash.
What are the Pros and Cons of the Modern Farmhouse Style?
PROS
- Comfortable, warm, relaxed style that makes an inviting home for you and your guests!
- Versatile style – it mixes well with other interior design ideas
- Materials are easily accessible – everyone loves farmhouse kitchen decor – so you can find it everywhere at your local stores!
- It’s SO pretty! Seriously – what modern farmhouse kitchen have you seen that doesn’t look good!?
CONS
- If you don’t think about your modern farmhouse design, you may come up with pieces that clash
- If you don’t love metal, the modern farmhouse style may not be for you – as there is often a lot of metal incorporated into design (think metal apron-front sink)
- Not for you if you don’t love mixing modern and vintage pieces 🙂
What are Good Countertop Materials for a Farmhouse Kitchen?
Most importantly, while you can use a plethora of different materials for your kitchen design, I’ve found the materials that will work best with the modern farmhouse style of decor! Granite countertops are ideal for a modern farmhouse kitchen. Light-colored quartz and marble countertops are also both very popular. Quartz is super durable and easy to maintain. Similarly, marble is a classic staple. Unfortunately it can just be harder to clean. Likewise, concrete countertops have been becoming increasingly popular. They’re affordable and create a more industrial feel for that rustic style.
